Brett Walter is a civil and commercial litigator.  His practice focuses on domestic and cross-border dispute resolution in matters involving financial fraud, banking, contract, and various insurance and reinsurance issues.  He represents clients at all levels of federal and state courts in the United States, and is experienced in arbitration, mediation, and more informal means of dispute resolution, including negotiation and pre-litigation counseling. 

Mr. Walter has considerable experience in international aspects of litigation, including managing litigation in multiple jurisdictions, obtaining evidence, and advising on enforcement of U.S. law abroad and of foreign law in U.S. jurisdictions.

Representative Matters

  • Representation of Saudi Arabian company managing defense of lawsuits brought by creditors in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Representation of Egyptian company in mediation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over contract for construction of buildings on Egyptian Air Force base.
  • Obtained out of court settlement for a Canadian manufacturer of stationary bikes in product liability case in Maryland state court.
  • Won dismissal of bad faith claim for an international insurance company in bad faith lawsuit in Virginia state court. 
  • Numerous representations of London Market reinsurers in confidential arbitrations involving business interruption, asbestos, and pollution cases.
  •  Numerous representations of London Market insurers and reinsurers advising on coverage issues.
  •  Representation of non-profit filing amicus briefs in the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Fourth Circuit and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in Commonwealth of Virginia v. Sebelius, litigation involving Constitutionality of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
